Art + Music

The St. Patrick Cathedral School Fine Arts program includes Choir, Music, Art, and Mariachi with musical instruments (piano, guitar, trumpet, violin). Led by Mr. Sarmiento, our Fine Arts Program aims to introduce students to music, public performance, singing, rhythm and dance.

We provide opportunities for students to explore new areas of teamwork, leadership, and confidence building while preparing them for performing arts opportunities in high school and the community.

Student Council

The Student Council of St. Patrick Cathedral School is comprised of students in grades 6-8 who are selected by the administration and faculty to be leaders in the areas of learning, faith formation, service, and fun. With the help of the Student Council President, the Student Council plans and implements activities throughout the year to enrich the school life of the entire student body.

Student Council is a great way for students to build confidence and leadership skills while having fun. Students apply for office and when selected are given genuine responsibilities. Student Council members lead school-wide assemblies, sponsor charity drives, do fundraising, and educational activities throughout the year for all the grades.

Diocese of El Paso Academic Decathlon

The Academic Decathlon or "Aca Deca" is available for the curious, self-motivated student who is up for challenges, enjoys problem solving, and seeks the opportunity to develop excellent study and collaboration skills. This extra-curricular activity is open to 6th, 7th and 8th graders leads to a diocesan-wide competition every spring. The diocesan winner goes on to the state championship.

There are ten events. Two are collaborative team efforts – a logic quiz with 20 rigorous thinking problems, and a super quiz with 50 multiple choice questions on five broad academic themes. The logic and super quiz events take place in a large open room with teams occupying separate tables. Logic is a quiet collaborative event whereas the Super Quiz event is live and consists of 50 multiple choice questions on five separate topics. These questions are read aloud by a proctor and responses are registered on lifted team cards. An air of quiet excitement permeates this element of the decathlon.
